Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Over 1.5 goals
Odds: 4/9 @ Pribet
In what is a showdown between two Irish giants on Friday night, Shelbourne will welcome Shamrock to Tolka Park.
Starting with the hosts, while Shelbourne might have made real history last season as they got their hands on a maiden Premier Division crown, Damien Duff’s men have struggled to find a similar level this time around. Last seen g off May with a 1-1 stalemate away at Cork City, the one-time Chelsea star has seen his squad muster just a pair of wins from any of their previous 10 consecutive appearances – a rut that stems all the way back to April 11th. Opening Friday’s showdown with just their goal difference keeping them in the top-half of the table, the Reds should at least take some solace from their success on home soil. Last seen at Tolka Park claiming an action-packed 3-2 win against Sligo Rovers, Shelbourne have ed seven points from their previous three Premier Division contests in front of their own ers. However, it should be noted, the defending Irish champions have recorded just a sole clean sheet on home soil over the past two months.
As for the visitors, while Shamrock might have been relinquished their Premier Division crown last season, the Rovers have come roaring back in a sensational fashion. Getting Friday’s showdown underway holding a six-point buffer at the top of the table, it is no surprise that Stephen Bradley’s side are pencilled in as a landslide title contender this year. Last seen on their travels landing a 2-1 victory against Derry City, the former Ireland boss has seen his squad muster 16 points from their previous six Premier Division appearances. Likewise, Shamrock are unbeaten in their last eight straight outings – a run that stems back to a 3-2 loss against Bohemians on April 21st. Securing consecutive Premier Division victories on the road, Friday’s guests have not suffered a single defeat on their travels since the start of March. Desperate to widen their advantage over the chasing pack here, Bradley’s side could be smelling the chance to lay down a heavyweight marker.
