Al-Hilal have announced the departure of head coach Jorge Jesus, with Mohammed Al-Shalhoub named as his successor.

Jesus’ second spell comes to an end following Al-Hilal’s defeat by Al-Ahli in the Champions League Elite semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Blue Waves are second in the Saudi Pro League with five games remaining, six points behind leaders Al-Ittihad.

“The Board of Directors of Al-Hilal Club Company has agreed with the Portuguese head coach of the first team, Jorge Jesus, to terminate the contractual relationship between them”, the club said in a statement on X.

“Meanwhile, the Board has decided to appoint coach Mohammed Al-Shalhoub to lead the first team.”

Jesus had a brief spell with Al-Hilal during the 2018-19 season, winning 15 of his 20 matches in charge across all competitions (losing one).

The Portuguese returned in July 2023 and guided the club to glory in the Saudi Pro League and Kings Cup last term.

Jesus departs having won 81 of his 105 games in all competitions at the helm during his second stint (77.1%).
