Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena considers future after Flick bust-up (Video)

When Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper for a decade now, suffered a patellar tendon rupture back in September, Inaki Pena took over between the posts and the club persuaded Wojciech Szczesny to return from retirement to provide an experienced backup option. However, things have changed since, with head coach Hansi Flick recently confirming that Szczesny was now the first choice.

Flick is obviously unhappy with Pena for some reason, and according to Sport, the two have had a conversation a few days ago, which resulted in the goalkeeper being furious with the coach and considering the possibilities for leaving the club. Indeed, Pena sat the last two La Liga games out on the bench with Szczesny between the posts, a situation unlikely to change for the match against Sevilla on Sunday.

The 25-year-old is arguably an excellent goalkeeper in his own right, and regardless of the situation with Flick and Szczesny, perhaps its time for him to seek regular game-time elsewhere.
