Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Derry City win
Odds: 4/5 @ BetUS
Seeking a much-welcomed boost on Friday night, Derry City will welcome Galway to the Brandywell Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, while Derry City might have got May underway with three consecutive Premier Division victories, it is fair to say that the Candystripes are seeking a recent boost. Last seen falling to a 1-0 loss away at Bohemians, Tiernan Lynch’s men have suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time sine the start of March. Likewise, the former Larne boss has seen his squad put just a single point on the board from their last three top-flight showdowns. However, with just their goal difference currently keeping them out the top-half of the Premier Division table, Derry will be excited to make a return to home soil here. Despite getting hit with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Irish giants Shamrock Rovers last time out at the Brandywell Stadium, they have won their other three appearances in front of their own ers. Landing an action-packed 3-2 win when they last met Galway back on April 18th, Lynch’s camp should be smelling a potential opportunity this weekend.
As for the visitors, while Galway might have snatched a 2-1 victory against Cork City last month, John Caulfield’s side almost find themselves sat in Premier Division limbo. Getting May underway with a routine 2-0 defeat away at St. Patrick’s, the Maroon Army have notched just a single win from any of their last six appearances. Facing what should be another tricky test here, Friday’s guests have shown some extended issues in the final third. Including back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Waterford and Sligo last month, Galway have failed to find the net in four of those six outings. Likewise, along with slumping to that 3-2 loss when they welcomed Derry City to town back on April 18th, it should be noted that they do hold a downbeat record against the Candystripes. In fact, Caulfield’s side have notched just a sole victory from any of their previous five meetings.
