Thomas Muller told Bayern Munich’s ers he loved playing the role of a “modern gladiator” after receiving an emotional send-off from the Bundesliga champions.
Muller played his final home game for Bayern – who clinched the Bundesliga title last week – as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 on Saturday.
Michael Olise set up Harry Kane for his 25th Bundesliga goal of the season before prodding the ball home in the 90th minute to seal a comfortable win for Vincent Kompany’s side.
But the day belonged to Muller, who started in an attacking midfield role and was given a rapturous ovation when withdrawn for Serge Gnabry in the 84th minute.
Muller first ed Bayern aged 10 and has helped them to 13 Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokal wins, eight DFL-Supercups and two Champions Leagues since his 2008 senior debut.
Bayern were presented with the Bundesliga trophy after the game, while ers behind one goal displayed a giant banner bearing Muller’s name and the words: “For 25 years, everything for our colours!”
