Tammy Abraham’s stoppage-time strike completed a stunning turnaround for AC Milan, as they snatched Supercoppa Italiana glory from under the noses of rivals Inter with a 3-2 victory in Riyadh.

Sergio Conceicao’s side recovered from 2-0 down at Al-Awwal Park to seal the Rossoneri’s first triumph in the competition for eight years.

Inter were seeking an unprecedented fourth successive Supercoppa Italiana triumph, and they took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Lautaro Martinez’s neat footwork and finish.

It was 2-0 within two minutes of the restart with Mehdi Taremi receiving Stefan de Vrij’s on the edge of the box, and sliding past Mike Maignan.

However, Milan responded just five minutes later through Theo Hernandez’s superb 20-yard free-kick, while the full-back turned provider in the 80th minute with his cross clinically tucked away by Christian Pulisic.

And there was to be one more dramatic twist in the third minute of stoppage time, as Rafael Leao’s centre was turned in by fellow substitute Abraham to snatch victory for the Rossoneri.

Data Debrief: Milan move level with Inter as Conceicao matches Inzaghi

Milan’s inspired turnaround secured their eighth Supercoppa Italiana and moved them level with Inter, with only Juventus (nine) triumphing on more occasions.

The Rossoneri also secured back-to-back victories over their rivals across all competitions for the first time since a run of three straight wins between November 2010 and August 2011.

Meanwhile, Conceicao became the first Milan coach to win his first two matches in charge across all competitions since Filippo Inzaghi in 2014.

Pulisic’s equaliser was his 10th goal of the season, making him the first American player to reach double figures in consecutive seasons in the big five European leagues since Clint Dempsey between 2010-11 and 2012-13.
