Luis Enrique vowed that Paris Saint-Germain will “try to conquer the footballing world” after his team’s record-breaking Champions League victory.

PSG finally ended their wait for European glory on Saturday, doing so in sensational style in Munich, as they hammered Inter 5-0.

Goals from Achraf Hakimi, Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu completed the job in emphatic fashion, as Luis Enrique became just the second coach, after Pep Guardiola, to win the treble with two different clubs.

Indeed, Luis Enrique is only the sixth coach to win the Champions League with two different teams, and with the Club World Cup coming up before next season, he has set his sights on becoming the dominant force in world football.

“On my first day at PSG, when my French was even worse than it is now, I said my ultimate goal was to fill the trophy cabinet,” said Luis Enrique, as reported by The Athletic.

“The only trophy that was missing was the Champions League, and here we are.

“We ticked that box, we were ambitious and we will continue to try to conquer the footballing world.

“It’s great when you can make people you don’t know happy.

“Our fans were 12th man on the pitch, the team reflects the ers we have. I’m so happy, don’t know what else to say.”

Among teams in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024-25, only Barcelona (174) have scored more goals than PSG (152).

Luis Enrique’s team lead the way for expected goals (145.7), non-penalty xG (137), shots (1,097), shots on target (458) and big chances (288).

Their focus will now turn to the Club World Cup, with Atletico Madrid, Botafogo and the Seattle Sounders their opponents in the group stage.
