West Ham earned their first Premier League win since February with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Tomas Soucek opened the scoring in the 26th minute at Old Trafford, flicking in Mohammed Kudus’ low to net his ninth league goal of the season.

Kudus continued to provide the spark up front for the Hammers with a series of half-chances before Jarrod Bowen doubled their lead before the hour, finishing a similar chance from Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s centre from close range.

United pushed hard for a late goal to give their fans something to cheer about, with Rasmus Hojlund coming close several times but failing to find the finishing touch.

The Dane dragged a shot wide off Amad Diallo’s cross before failing to beat Alphonse Areola from close range twice in the dying minutes, reg United to their ninth home Premier League loss of the season.

The win moves West Ham up to 15th in the table, with United slipping to 16th, just one point behind with two games left to play.

Data debrief: United slump to t-record lows

Having won the reverse fixture 2-1 back in October, West Ham have now completed only their fifth ever top-flight double over United, and their first since 2006-07.

Indeed, this was the Hammers’ first league win at Old Trafford since that season, ending a run of 16 league trips there without a win (D3 L13).

As mentioned, it was a ninth home defeat of the campaign in the Premier League for United, their t-most in a single league campaign, along with 1930-31, 1933-34 and 1962-63.

They ended Sunday’s clash with an impressive xG of 2.28 compared to West Ham’s 1.56, but will know that wastefulness in front of goal has cost them important points once again.
