Norwich City have appointed Liam Manning as their new head coach on a four-year deal.

Manning arrives at Carrow Road having departed fellow Championship side Bristol City, after the Canaries met the release clause in his contract at Ashton Gate.

The 39-year-old, who was born in Norwich and spent three years in the club’s academy, guided the Robins to a fifth-place finish in his first full season in charge.

It was Bristol’s first play-off campaign in 17 years, though they were comprehensively beaten by Sheffield United in the semi-finals.

Manning will now look to guide Norwich back towards the top end of the table, with the Canaries having finished 13th last term.

“I’m privileged and honoured to have the opportunity to work for this fantastic football club,” he told the Canaries’ official website. “It’s a wonderful club with a big history and tradition.

“I was really impressed by [the hierarchy’s] vision and strategy for moving the club forward. I felt a clear alignment in how they want to play and develop players – that is something I was really excited to be a part of.

“It’s clear there has already been a lot of valuable groundwork laid in recent seasons – it’s now important we build further on that and move the club forward.”
