Mourinho: I would love for Inter to win the Champions League

Former Inter manager Jose Mourinho said he would love for the Italian side to win the Champions League.

Inter will face PSG in the final on May 31 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, with this their last chance of silverware after missing out on the Serie A title to Napoli by a point.

It will also be the first-ever competitive meeting between the sides.

Mourinho was the last Inter manager to lead the team to European glory, winning the competition back in 2010, beating Bayern Munich in the showpiece.

The Portuguese manager won the treble with the Italian giants that season and jokingly said he is glad that the achievement cannot be repeated this time around, but he would still love to see them win the final.

“I’m going to be very naughty, but very honest,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “I was worried they [Inter] could win the treble, because I didn’t want them to win the treble. The treble in mine!”

“But now that they lost the championship [Serie A] and the Italian Cup [Coppa Italia], I would love for them to win the Champions League.”

This will be Inter’s seventh European Cup/Champions League final appearance, winning the trophy three times (1964, 1965 and 2010). However, their last final ended in a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in 2023.

Mourinho also said he would be happy to see Luis Enrique win for the brilliant work he has done with PSG this season.

Luis Enrique is looking to become the sixth manager, one of whom is Mourinho, to win the competition with two different clubs after lifting the trophy with Barcelona in 2015.

Mourinho added: “But of course, Luis Enrique is doing an amazing job in Paris. He transformed the team. He lost, let’s say their ‘number one player’, but they rebuilt [the team] in a fantastic way, so if Luis wins I’m also happy for him.”
