Wolves 3-0 Leicester City: Cunha stars as hosts soar to sixth straight win

Matheus Cunha inspired Wolves to a sixth straight Premier League victory, following a routine 3-0 win over relegated Leicester City.

The Brazil international scored and provided two assists as the resurgent hosts extended their record streak of successes in the competition.

Wolves also inflicted a 10th defeat in 11 games on Leicester, for whom Jamie Vardy’s second-half penalty was denied.

Cunha broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, turning home Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross from close range for his 15th league goal of the season.

The forward then turned provider 11 minutes after the break, with a well-timed neatly slotted home by Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Josa Sa thwarted Vardy from 12 yards in the 72nd minute before Rodrigo Gomes sealed the victory five minutes from time, drilling past Mads Hermansen after another neat Cunha lay-off.

Wolves have won six successive matches in the top flight for the first time since between September and October 1970.

Cunha has now been directly involved in 21 Premier League goals this season (15 goals, six assists). Only Raul Jimenez in 2019-20 (23) has had a hand in more in a single campaign in the competition for Wolves.

The Brazil forward was set up to break the deadlock by Ait-Nouri, who now has 11 Premier League goal involvements this season (four goals, seven assists), more than any other defender in the division.

Strand Larsen doubled the lead with his eighth league goal at Molineux this term; the t-most by a Wolves player at home in a single campaign, along with Jimenez in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.

As for Leicester, they have now conceded first in 29 of their 34 Premier League games this season; the most ever by a side in a single 38-game campaign in the competition.
